Threat Assessment & Migration Training

The basic security office training is designed for individuals with or without prior security experience. The course is requires by Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (D.C.J.S.) and covers elements of Virginia Law, history of private security, criminal law definitions, patrol procedures, report writing, and codes of conduct. After successfully completion of the course an passing a written exam, participants receive a certificate of completion.

This course consists of classroom instruction as well as practical application and exercises suitable for individuals interested in pursuing a profession as an Armed Security Officer, In addition to the classroom instruction, the course includes interactive sessions and range qualifications that students must successfully complete. The curriculum instructs the proper care of a handgun, civil and criminal liability, firearms retention and storage, deadly force, range safety, principles of marksmanship, practical firearms handling and safety.

All armed private security services business personnel must satisfactorily complete four hours of firearms classroom training or practical exercises and range training. All VA D.C.J.S. armed security officers must requalify with their prescribed firearm on an annual basis prior to the issuance of the Firearms Endorsement.
